Roughly fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.
An important official stated the incident rendered him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
